GENERAL DISCUSSION

Innovative research is pursued by the Human Ecology Department’s textile science and apparel design faculty to enhance human comfort and protection through textile and clothing solutions for items ranging from protective gear, uniforms, and sportswear to clothing for disabled persons.

Researchers in the department have distinguished themselves in the fields of fiber science with a focus on areas such as material response under various thermal hazards, combustion of textile materials, odor transfer, standards development and functional apparel design.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

A four-year baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent, from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta. An admission grade point average of 3 on most 4-point grading systems or B on most letter grading systems, based on your most recent two years of full time study (or equivalent) is required.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • IELTS Academic: Overall 6.5 with at least 5.5 on each test band
  • TOEFL iBT: Overall 90 with at least 21 on each individual skill area
  • PTE Academic: Overall 61 with a minimum band score of 60
